The November issue of Glamour Magazine rings in the holiday season with Michelle Obama on the cover. She is a stunning First Lady in Red and the first ever to appear on the cover. This cover takes my breath away! I am so happy that this is the only magazine I still have a subscription for. I can’t wait to find it in my mailbox.
Something about this cover ignites all the warm fuzzy feelings I have associated with the holidays. I just imagine the snowflakes on the cover delicately hitting my face as I frolic the streets of New York City toward the Christmas tree at Rockefellar Center. I think of all the fun parties I’ll attend dressed in my holiday best—the cute dresses, statement necklaces and shoes.
What great imagery! Not only is Michelle Obama a style icon, she also gives great advice to young women. I love the following quote from the interview with the First Lady.
“I have always tried to put my kids first, and then…put myself a really close second, as opposed to fifth or seventh. One thing that I’ve learned from male role models is that they don’t hesitate to invest in themselves.”
Her statement is so relevant to many young women I know. We are always putting our male counterparts first, taking an approach where we feel that taking care of him results in taking care of ourselves. Why oh why? I’m taking a cue from Michelle Obama and putting myself first!
(By the way, her dress is Jason Wu. Read the full article at Glamour.)
